You Can Go Sandboarding Down North America's Biggest Sand Dunes

By: Grant Marek

Colorado's Great Sand Dunes have the tallest sand dunes in North America.

You have the snowboard-iest snowboard in North America.

Put 'em together and whaddya got? Bibbidi bobbidi boo Sandboarding!

It works just like snowboarding, except, (spoiler alert) you do it on sand, including at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve near Alamosa, Colorado -- a 19K-acre park that's home to the tallest dunes in North America. Sandboarding is permitted anywhere on the dunefield that doesn't have plant stuff on it, including on the 750ft tall grande tetons.

And while you ARE able to do it year-round (in your face, melting snow), and can rip speeds of up to 50mph, you'll only be able to do so after hiking up the 750ft tall grande tetons, 'cause, yeah, sand ski lifts aren't yet a thing.
